Mr. Wilburn is the Founder and President of Winnercomm, as well as the General Manger and visionary behind Major League Fishing. After graduating from the University of Tulsa with a B.S. in communications, Jim became the top advertising sales performer for ABC affiliate KTUL. In 1981, he left KTUL and co-founded Winner Communications as a syndicator of American Quarter Horse racing telecasts. Twenty years later Winner Communications had become Winnercomm and produced almost 50 percent of the ESPN Outdoors program block as well as 25 award-winning one-hour SportsCentury programs. Winning 13 Emmy Awards and 2 Eclipse Awards, Winnercomm produced over 500 hours of programming annually for ESPN and 13 other networks. During this time, Wilburn also served on ESPN Outdoors senior staff.
In 2004, Winnercomm acquired the camera platforms Skycam and in 2006 Cablecam; cable-controlled camera systems used extensively on NCAA Football, Monday Night Football and Super Bowl coverage. The acquisitions of Skycam and Cablecam furthered Winnercomm’s reach into live sports coverage. In 2006, Parallel Partners & Harbert Management acquired Winnercomm. In 2009 Parallel and Harbert sold Winnercomm to Outdoor Channel Holdings.
Mr. Wilburn has worked tirelessly in creating the hottest property in professional fishing, Major League Fishing. Major League Fishing brings real time scoring to the sport for the first time and boasts 24 anglers who have made almost $50 million dollars fishing. Major League Fishing is a huge success both in viewership and sponsorship revenues.
Mr. Wilburn has been inducted into the University of Tulsa Business Hall of Fame, as well as their Distinguished Alumni Association. He has served on the board for Holland Hall Preparatory School for five years and currently serves on the University Of Tulsa Board Of Trustees for the past nine years.
